CREATIVE Marketing:
Strategy, CONTENT & Activations

I have a wide array of creative strategy and content ideation experience. If you need help with creative direction, strategy or general ideas, get in touch.

An idea is only a good idea if it achieves what it sets out to do and fits in with the wider strategy.

Whether it is creating the marketing strategy or needing someone to help develop creative ideas and content plans, I can help you.

Here are some examples of creative content and activations that I have led on to help tell a story/achieve an objective.

Being scottish

This video was created after a couple of bad defeats for the national team. The was to remind people that we should be proud to be Scottish and build excitement and belief for the Scotland v Israel match in the UEFA Nations League.

I scripted and created the storyboard for the video.

SCOTLAND PLAY-OFF FINAL HYPE VIDEO

I wanted something that hit the right tone for final using the marketing slogan being used at the time “Let’s Do This”. When coming up with the initial concept, I took inspiration from a Ryder Cup video from a couple of years previous.

I came up with the concept, initial brief and worked with the ex-players to feed them the questions to get the right lines out of them.

scottish cup early rounds

The early rounds of the Scottish Cup are special to many but are ignored for the most part by supporters of the bigger teams. We wanted to tell the story of the early rounds and highlight the original moments and unforgettable memories that occur in rounds one to three.

I was responsible for the concept, script and project managing production of both the original longer versions and the more recent shorter round-ups.

TENNENT’S LAGER

As a national team sponsor, I approached Tennent’s Lager about an idea I had to use their Wellpark Brewery as the setting for some fun player content. We looked to achieve our goals of bringing fans closer to the players by showing their personalities while bringing extra value to a sponsor through content that naturally fits.

FIND THE PLAYER

We had some last-minute tickets given to us late the night before the game. I came up with the idea of hiding player photo cards around Glasgow first thing in the morning using sponsors and Scotland related places. If someone found the player cards they had to tweet us.

It worked very well so we did a Scotland wide one for our next home match against Malta. Working with adidas, we hid two player cards in different towns around Scotland over eight successive days. One player card had match tickets, the other a signed shirt courtesy of adidas. The eight places spelt Scotland although we never officially revealed until the end.

Scotland supporters club

The Scotland Supporters Club is for everyone and the aim of this content was to say thank you to the members, making them realise they are a part of something special while making those not a member, feel like they are missing out.

I scripted and created the storyboard for the video.

QUALIFICATION CELEBRATION

We had created this as a player video for Andy Robertson to share amongst the team not long after he was made captain. We adapted it for when we qualified for UEFA EURO 2020.

I came up with storyboard for the original and revised version, sourcing the quotes etc. before working with my lead video person to hit the tone right on the final version once we had qualified.

original moments. unforgettable memories.

Challenged with conveying what the Scottish Cup is all about ahead of the Scottish Cup Final 2019 - I worked with the talented Nick Murray Willis to produce the Scottish Cup Animated Commentaries.

I project managed and had final sign-off on this project. The video was widely well-received gaining a lot of traction and views across all social channels.

CHRISTMAS QUIZ

Vauxhall were the main national team sponsors and an expectation was there to create content that they could apply their brand to. As with the Tennent’s and FIFA content this was one of a number of pieces of content that was designed to raise the profile of certain players within the squad.

LOVE ISLAND FINAL EVENT

I was set the challenge to drive more footfall into Brel Bar (Glasgow West End) particularly on the quieter days. Throughout the summer of 2021, I came up with the idea of Love Island Bingo every Sunday night which proved popular.

To round off our summer season and to tap into the popularity of Love Island, I created a Love Island Final event which sold out the outside area of Brel and extended the stay time of many other walk-in groups resulting in a very successful Monday night at the bar.

scotland v england reaction

Supporting Scotland can be a bit of a chore and for many they could take it or leave it at times. I wanted to show what it means to support Scotland and that there are moments that can bring a whole nation together.

I realised we had to react pretty quickly and came up with the idea for the video and project managed the production.

THE STORY OF THE NIGHT

Probably one of my favourite pieces of content I have ever been involved in. To commemorate one week since Scotland had qualified for UEFA EURO 2020, we published this video which took content from around the internet and helped show the outpouring of emotion and what it meant to qualify.

I sourced all the material and created the storyboard for it.

SCOTLAND EURO 2020 SQUAD

I came up with the original idea, planned and managed the Scotland EURO 2020 squad announcement.

The idea around the squad announcement was to have a squad announcement that connected with different parts of Scottish culture that would have multiple uses.

At the centre of the squad announcement were 26 Scottish illustrators, who each drew a player that was used in the squad announcement video, was available to buy and were used within the Scotland HQ that was set up in Glasgow. I also scripted the final video.

SCOTLAND PODCAST

After analysing fan data and insights, I launched the Official Scotland National Team Podcast as longer-form content to speak to a target audience of Scotland fans in a way that we hadn’t done before.

I was been responsible for coordinating production, hosts, guests, content and acting as producer.

SILVERBURN EXPERIENTIAL ACITIVTY

Silverburn Shopping Centre in Glasgow approached me to help them drive more male footfall, capture more male data and to come up with some activity that helps provide a fun experience.

I came up with the idea and project managed the installation of a golf simulator and hole in one challenge the weekend ahead of the 150th Open at St Andrews.

It proved to be a very popular activity and as a result plans are now under way for wider range of activities in 2023.
